Nevertheless, 17 births have been recorded in five different prides between 2007 and 2015. Today, lion populations are stable only in large protected area complexes. Scientific Name Geographic Range Lions have become rare throughout West Africa and have been extirpated from most of South Africa and much of East Africa. African lions are included in CITES Appendix II. The mane colour is also influenced by nutrition andtestosterone.
